Keep an eye out for Kev
Celebrity spotting is as much about the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon as fantastic crowds, friendly marshals and a great goody bag.
And among the famous faces taking part this year is former Leeds Rhinos skipper Kevin Sinfield.
Kevin, 36, 2015 BBC Sports Personality of the Year runner-up, is taking on the challenge to raise money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, which supports children’s and cancer charities.
It will be the latest in a series of charity endurance events the seven-times Grand Final winner and former England captain has taken on since his playing days came to an end.
Earlier this year he completed the London Marathon in 3:30:53, was part of a team that conquered the 3 Peak Challenge – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – in aid of the Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund and in 2016, he ran the Asda Foundation Leeds 10K to raise money for the Leeds Rhinos Foundation.
Kevin, who in 2014 received an MBE for his services to rugby league and is now the Rugby Football League’s director of rugby, said: “I know the Yorkshire Marathon is a very popular event with a brilliant atmosphere and I’m sure it will be a great day.
“I’m delighted to be supporting the Jane Tomlinson Appeal. Jane was a truly inspirational figure who showed what can be achieved if you have the spirit and determination. It’s an honour to be running for the appeal established in her name.”
Be one of the village people
It’s busy, buzzy and brilliant – a visit to the event village is a “must do” to make sure you get the most out of your Plusnet Marathon experience.
Here you’ll find a host of activities, entertainment and well-earned refreshments.
The baggage store is based in the village as is the Race Office, first aid facilities and an information point. It’s also where you can get that hard-earned medal engraved for free, courtesy of headline sponsor Plusnet.
The event’s official partner charities can be found in the village but you don’t have to running for one of those charities to enjoy the fun – everyone is welcome.

Elsewhere on the University of York site, Viisana will be on hand in the Exhibition Centre for a post-race massage. Outside the centre is a meeting point clearly marked by a flag where you can link up with family and friends. There is also a meeting point in the event village.
Keep an eye on the post because something very exciting will soon be landing on your door mat. Race numbers will soon be on their way – a sure sign that the big day is fast approaching.
A timing strip is attached to your race number. Activated when you cross the start mats, it records your official finishing time and your split times. Don’t forget to complete the reverse of your number with the required safety information.
