A small army of volunteers is needed to make The Plusnet
Yorkshire Marathon and James Potter Eggs Yorkshire Marathon
Corporate Relay happen and ensure the participants have a fantastic
time. We would like to thank you for your interest in event day
volunteering - we couldn't do it without you!
It's not just the Yorkshire Marathon events that are new for
2013, we are also pleased to introduce "Eventeers" - our scheme to
formally recognise our commitment to the people who give their time
to support us through volunteering.
Whether you're volunteering on behalf of one of our partner
charities, a group or organisation or simply for yourself, The
Yorkshire Marathon Team will be very grateful for your support and
so will thousands of participants.
Who can volunteer?
Everyone is welcome to volunteer with us, the only recommendation
we make is that volunteers are aged over 16 to volunteer
independently (14 and 15 year olds can volunteer with a supervising
parent/guardian).
What roles are available?
Volunteers are needed for a variety of roles including:
- Start/Finish
- Route Marshals
- Senior Marshals
- Drink Station Marshals
- Baggage Store Marshals
- Race Office
You just need lots of enthusiasm and a proactive attitude,
excellent communications skills and to enjoy working as part of a
team and you can help ensure a positive experience for our
thousands of runners.
Benefits of volunteering?
- Meeting new people
- Helping local and national charities
- Supporting and improving the experience of our thousands of
participants
Refreshments will be provided during your shift and in addition to
a huge thank you from The Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon Team, all
volunteers will receive an electronic certificate of appreciation
after the event. A reward and recognition document will also follow
shortly as part of our "Eventeers" scheme.
How can I get involved?
To generously give up a few hours of your time, please click here to register your details. For more
information about becoming an "Eventeer", what you can expect of us
and more details on our event roles, download our volunteering policy.
I want to get involved but I’m not sure what could be required of me.
For more information on our volunteering opportunities,
requirements including estimated time commitments, and what you can
expect from us please download our "Eventeers"
- volunteering policy.
How do I register to get involved?
The easiest way to get involved is to register online.
When should I register?
The sooner the better! You'll receive email confirmation as soon
as you register and a full briefing around 2 weeks before each
event day. A small army of volunteers is needed to help make the
event happen so the sooner you can let us know you're available and
interested in helping out the better!
What will I be expected to do?
There are a number of different roles, download our volunteer
policy for details of the many roles and what they involve. If
you have specific skills or expertise that you think match one or
more of our roles, please do let us know when you register and we
will try our best to place you accordingly.
Will I need to do any specific training?
You will be provided with a full briefing around two weeks
before event day and will also have the opportunity to discuss this
and any questions you may have with the event lead. A senior
marshal will be responsible for you on event day and will provide a
briefing, specific information and any required health and safety
training on the morning of the event. Any equipment needed for your
allocated role, including high visibility bibs for all volunteers,
will also be distributed by your senior marshal.
I want to volunteer with my friend/family member, can we be placed together?
We try our best to place friends, families and group members
together, where possible. There is space within the online
registration to indicate the group you are volunteering with,
please use this to let us know and we will endeavour to accommodate
you.
I work full time; can I volunteer outside of conventional hours?
We fully appreciate that many of our volunteers work full time
and are taking the time out of their busy lives to help at our
events. The event is on a weekend and you can contact us with any
queries at any time via email, twitter or facebook. Prior to the
event, we will host two question and answer sessions, ensuring one
is in an evening and hopefully accessible to volunteers not free
during the day.
There are a number of organisations that actively encourage
volunteering amongst their employees as part of their Corporate
Social Responsibility Programmes, speak to your HR department to
check if a scheme is in operation at your place of work.
I’m busy studying so don’t really have time to volunteer.
Volunteering can count as accreditation for many qualifications
such as vocational studies, placements as part of your degree and
training schemes such as Duke of Edinburgh. We are more than happy
to look at options for working with groups to assist with
accreditations. If there is something specific that you or a group
would like to get involved with on event day, please contact us and
we will try our best to accommodate you.
What are the benefits of volunteering?
Event day volunteering is a fun and rewarding way to work as
part of a team, meet new people, help local and national charities,
support and improve the experience of our thousands of
participants.
New for 2013, we are pleased to have introduced "Eventeers" -
our scheme to formally recognise our commitment to the people who
give their time to support us through volunteering. Our volunteering policy provides lots of useful
information and a reward and recognition document is to follow
shortly.
